The East African Rarities Committee assesses records of new or rarely recorded birds occurring in Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Rwanda and Burundi. The birds that qualify for assessment are set out in country-specific lists provided by the EARC. Each list is laid out (or will be laid out shortly) under the following categories:

  • A: Fully accepted species (and subspecies)
  • B1: Fully accepted species but not recorded since 2000
  • B2: Fully accepted species but not recorded since 1970
  • B3: Extinct or possibly extinct species
  • C: Introduced species
  • D: Identification accepted but provenance uncertain
  • E.  Fully accepted hybrids
